Uber Driver Billed Over £3,000 for Three-Minute Stop at Busy UK Airport

Mark, an Uber driver, was in for a shock when he checked his bank account after completing a ride. To his disbelief, he discovered that he had been charged over £1,000 per minute for a brief stop, resulting in a staggering total of £3,132 for a mere three minutes.

The unexpected and exorbitant charge left the 66-year-old driver perplexed, especially since he believed he had enough funds to cover his expenses for the month.

Upon realizing the error, Mark promptly contacted Manchester Airport, where the incident occurred. However, he faced frustration when the airport claimed they had no record of the transaction.

Undeterred, Mark turned to his bank, HSBC, for assistance and was relieved to receive a full refund a few days later. However, the relief was short-lived, as the refunded amount was unexpectedly withdrawn from his account again without prior notice.

This sudden withdrawal led to further complications, as Mark found himself facing charges on his overdraft. Despite the stress and challenges, Mark persisted in seeking resolution.

He reached out to Manchester Airport, providing details of the incident, and eventually received news that he would be reimbursed for the entire amount.

In response to the situation, a spokesperson for Manchester Airport issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to Mark.

They acknowledged the rarity of such instances, emphasizing that thousands of passengers use their parking services daily, and they work diligently to address and resolve issues promptly.
